Mitsubishi EVO IX Rally

Overview

  • Car: Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX
  • Goal: Build all electrical systems from scratch
  • Hours Spent(Roughly): 180

We recently had the opportunity to work on a full rally car rebuild for a new client, following a major crash at the Paide Rally. With just 6 weeks to rebuild the entire car, and only 3 weeks allocated for the electrical work, the timeline was extremely demanding for a project of this scale.

Our scope included complete wiring for both the body and engine management systems. We integrated our 5″ CANbus dash and steering wheel keypad alongside an ECUMaster PMU 24 for power distribution. The car also ran a Cartek system for the main power switch, with a MoTeC ECU and differential controller handling engine and drivetrain control.

To streamline serviceability, we implemented a quick-connect circular connector at the firewall, allowing clean separation of engine and chassis looms. While the tight schedule led to a few unexpected issues, we worked quickly to resolve them and keep the build on track.

Despite the pressure, the car crossed the finish line at Saaremaa Rally with a strong 7th place in class—a solid result and a great reward for the hard work, dedication, and coordination from everyone involved.

What We Did:

  • Custom wiring harness for Motec EVO89 M800 ECU & Motec MDC
  • Chassi wiring harness for Ecumaster PMU 24-DL
  • Cartek Battery isolator install
  • Fatech canbus steering wheel
  • Fatech custom 5″ canbus dash
  • Software setup for Motec and Ecumaster Can-bus and power management
  • 8 switch Ecumaster keypad install and setup
  • Setup for automated features. (Automatic cooling fans, Automatic wipers, starter disable etc.)
