The client’s car was a BMW E36 with an N52B30 engine installed.
The tasks for us were:
- Installation of Fatech Canbus dash
- Engine wiring, utilizing the original wiring harness.
- Modifications to the MSV70 ECU
Installation of Fatech Canbus Dash
For the installation, we again used the original E36 dashboard frame, to which we added a flat plastic plate with a carbon imitation. No changes were made to the dash itself, and the ready-made PT-Can version was used as a solution.
Engine Wiring
As a first step, we removed all unnecessary wiring from the harness for this particular car. For example, the oil separator heater system, air conditioning pump wires, etc. Next, we assembled the wiring for the electronic throttle pedal and routed the wires for the original BMW E36 x20 connector, which connects the body and engine wiring. Thanks to this, we achieved a neat OEM-style connection. The relays and fuses of the engine wiring were attached to the cover of the original ECU socket.
MSV70 ECU Modifications
For the ECU, we first performed the removal of the EWS and CAS modules. This allows the engine to start and operate without going into limp mode. Once we ensured that the engine and Valvetronic were functioning correctly, we also removed the redundant lambda sensors from the ECU (the car has a tubular manifold and lacks catalytic converters). Additionally, we raised the idle speed to 1150 rpm.
